A pilot randomized controlled trial in 80 adults aged 50-75 using a massage chair twice daily for six months found improved self-reported depression and perceived health status, but the afternoon cortisol decline did not reach statistical significance (p=0.059) and DHEA-S actually decreased, so the proposed stress-hormone mechanism behind the subjective benefit is not confirmed by this trial.
