Across linked randomized trials from an 8-week exercise+sauna cohort, sauna bathing's measurable cardiovascular benefit was limited to blood pressure and lipids when combined with exercise; it did not add to fitness gains or heart-rate variability beyond exercise alone, and a separate RCT in an existing coronary-artery-disease population found no vascular benefit at all.
How strong the finding is
Synthesizes three RCTs: 41-participant CAD vascular trial, 47-participant exercise+sauna fitness/BP trial, and its 38-participant HRV companion.
What complicates this
This narrower RCT picture sits alongside, and does not overturn, the much larger observational Finnish cohort literature already on file associating frequent sauna use with lower all-cause and cardiovascular mortality.
