Red light therapy
Limited evidenceWhy it might help
Photobiomodulation may influence mitochondrial activity and local inflammatory signaling, but dose and device parameters vary and evidence from exercise soreness cannot establish repair of torn fibers.
What the research shows
A systematic review and meta-analysis included four randomized studies with 66 healthy adults recovering from high-intensity exercise, not people with diagnosed muscle strains. Compared with post-exercise cryotherapy, photobiomodulation favored strength, delayed-onset soreness, and muscle-damage biomarkers, but certainty ranged from moderate to very low and heterogeneity was substantial for soreness and biomarkers. The direction supports possible recovery comfort, not proven strain healing.
