The demands
Running has the clearest recurring cadence of any endurance sport: the long run is the load event, the race is the peak, and the week after a marathon is about as predictable a recovery need as there is. Foot, heel and achilles complaints are the ones that show up most. The build blocks are where mileage climbs fastest and where feet and calves accumulate the most; the short down periods in June and December are where tissue tolerance is rebuilt. Because both peaks are preceded by a long build, the phase an individual runner is in matters more here than the month does.

Gear and surface
Two athletes on the same schedule can accumulate very differently depending on what they train on and in.
Shoe rotation and stack height are the dominant demand modifiers; a new shoe or a new surface changes calf and foot load immediately. Carbon-plated race shoes shift load toward the calf and achilles, and a runner who has just adopted them will report a different profile on identical mileage.

The long run and the day after it are the pinch point in most build blocks. Recovery work is best used to protect the next quality session rather than to make the long run itself feel easier.
That first-step pattern is the classic description of plantar fasciitis, which is common in runners and usually managed with load adjustment, calf and foot work, and footwear changes. Recovery modalities can help comfort; they do not replace the loading changes.
Not blindly. Achilles tendon pain responds most consistently to progressive, criteria-based loading, and running through unmanaged tendon pain is how it becomes a long problem. A pain that worsens run-to-run needs assessment.
Yes — the July-to-August fall-race build carries the highest heat and hydration load of the year. Building in progressively rather than jumping straight into full sessions in the heat is the part that matters most; cooling afterward is comfort.
Treat it as an injury question until someone rules out a bone stress problem. Diffuse shin soreness after a mileage jump is common; a focal, pinpoint, worsening pain is not something to manage with recovery sessions.
